Chronicle

The replay system, whole — REPLAY-CLIP-DESIGN.md phases 2 through 4, on top of the recorder that shipped in Laurels. Every match already writes a .crown; now you can watch them, cut them, and film them.

  • ▶ WATCH REPLAY. Every Match History row with a recording plays it back on the real battle scene — the same board, effects, battle log and banners the live match used, driven by the recording instead of by anyone's input. An ⬆ IMPORT REPLAY button plays a .crown a friend sent, which closes the loop the feature was asked for: download a match, hand it to someone, they watch it in their game.
  • A real transport bar. Pause, 0.5× to 4× speed (2× and up skip hit-stop and cinematics exactly like fast-forward), restart, a turn scrubber, and a FOLLOW toggle that frees the camera from the acting unit — pan, orbit and zoom wherever you like while the battle tells itself. Scrubbing to turn 30 quietly re-simulates the whole battle up to that moment through the engine (nine milliseconds for the biggest mode — what Laurels' determinism fix bought), so the board you land on is exact, not approximate. Pacing is the recording's own rhythm with the thinking time squeezed out: an AI exchange keeps its cadence, a 25-second deliberation becomes one beat.
  • ✂ CLIP. Pause on the moment and cut "this turn", "the last 3 turns", or "from here to the end" into a fresh .crown — windows are measured in TURNS, never seconds, because recorded time includes thinking time and "the last 30 seconds" can be one turn of somebody deliberating. A clip is a first-class replay: its opening state is re-simulated at the cut point, so it can itself be scrubbed, clipped again, or filmed. A clip that stops before the final turn drops the verdict from its end card — it doesn't know the ending. The exported file pops open in Explorer, ready to drag into Discord.
  • A film camera (tools/render-replay.ps1, dev-side): point Godot's own Movie Maker at any .crown and get a fixed-framerate H.264 of it — every frame rendered, none dropped, encoded with the same settings as the site's ability films. This is the marketing-clip pipeline: any moment from any match ever recorded, re-filmed at full quality with a free camera, without anyone having had capture software running when it happened.
  • Replays of ONLINE matches play with everything except the scrubber and clipping, since the other players' commands never reach your client. A replay can't be mistaken for a match: a ◉ REPLAY badge sits in the corner, no turn is ever yours, nothing you press can act, and a watched match records no new replay, adds no history row, and pays no spoils.
